Key Steps to Winning Asylum
- File within 1 Year of Entry
 
To apply for asylum, you must file within one year of entering the U.S.
- Pass the "Credible Fear" Interview
 
Demonstrate a well-founded fear of persecution due to one of the following factors:
- Race
 - Religion
 - Nationality
 - Political Opinion
 - Membership in a Particular Social Group (including gender-based claims)
 
If Approved
You can apply for:
- Lawful Permanent Residence (Green Card)
 - Work Authorization (Work Permit)
 
If Denied
You may present:
- Witness testimony
 - Reports and evidence
 - Documentation before an Immigration Judge to prove credible fear.
 
															What is "Credible Fear"?
To qualify for asylum, you must show that you or your family have faced persecution in your home country and that you fear returning because of threats or violence. Persecution must be committed by:
- Government Officials
 - Criminal Groups or Gangs that the government cannot or will not control.
