U.S. immigration law allows foreign business owners, investors, and skilled workers entry to the United States under certain circumstances and conditions.

TN Visas:
For foreign nationals from Mexico or Canada who have university degrees (or commensurate work experience) and offers of employment for jobs that require that education. Allow one-year stays with no limit on renewals.
H1-B Visas:
For all other foreign nationals with university degrees (or commensurate work experience) and offers of employment in a related field. Allow two three-year stays.
L1-A Visas:
For foreign business owners or managers looking to open an affiliate branch of their company in the United States. Allow three-year stays with a seven-year cap.
L1-B Visas:
For foreign nationals who are “specialized-knowledge personnel” and work for companies with an international presence. Allow three-year stays with a seven-year cap.
E-1 Visas:
For foreign nationals from countries that are party to the E Visa Treaty and who is “essential to the efficient operation” of an enterprise that carries on “substantial trade” between the United States and the treaty country from which the national hails. Allow a stay of two to five years with no limit on renewals.
E-2 Visas:
For foreign nationals from an E Visa Treaty Country who will purchase an existing U.S. business or invest in a new one. Allow a stay of two to five years with no limit on renewals.
EB-5 Million Dollar Investor Visas:
The EB-5 Visa is available to foreign nationals willing to invest at least $1 million into new or existing U.S. business enterprises.
